Kinvara GAA are saddened to hear of the passing of our former hurler Martin O’Connell RIP.

Martin will be fondly remembered by his teammates who played alongside him.
He was a very fast and skillful hurler and was a handful for all his opponents, especially when he played in the full forward position. He showed great commitment to his adopted club here in Kinvara from his native Cork, and never let the side down. Off the field he was great company, had good wit, and was a pleasure to be around.

Martin played for many years on our adult teams, with one highlight being a member of our 2014 Junior C winning team. He and his then manager Tommie Hanlon will no doubt be having a good catch up soon about those great days.

After a hurling break for a few years, Martin was due to make a welcome return to the hurling this year with our Junior F team. Unfortunately for him and us, his illness got in the way of his comeback, as he battled his own opponent off the field.

Our thoughts at this sad time go to his wife Róisín, daughters Bláithín and Sorcha, his mother Eileen, and all his family and friends both here in Kinvara and Cork.

RIP Martin.
