Policy on Communicating with Under-Age Players and Use of Mobile Phones
Kinvara GAA and Camogie club recognizes the importance of mobile phones for Parents and Guardians to contact their children when away from home. However, to protect all children within the club, the following limitations on mobile phone use are enforced:
1. Mobile Phones at Training and Matches
- Children are discouraged from bringing mobile phones to training sessions and matches, both home and away.
2. Mobile Phones in Dressing Rooms
- Mobile phones, particularly smartphones, are not permitted in dressing rooms at any time.
- Use of a mobile phone in a dressing room will result in disciplinary measures.
- The ban is due to the potential misuse of cameras and internet capabilities, especially if photographs are taken without consent. This decision is rooted in child protection principles, and parents and children are expected to respect this policy.
3. Misuse of Mobile Phones
- Misuse of mobile phones is taken seriously. Persistent misuse will be reported to the Child Protection Officer for further action.
4. Responsibility for Lost or Stolen Phones
- The club holds no responsibility for mobile phones that are lost or stolen.
5. Safety and Security of Mobile Phones
- It is the responsibility of Parents, Guardians, and Children to ensure mobile phones are kept safe and secure at all times.
6. Communication via Internet Sites
- Coaches should not use social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, wats app) to communicate with young players.
7. Passing Information
- Information about games, training, or other activities should be communicated via the clubβs communication system, ClubZap.
- This recommendation applies to all underage players (under 18 years of age).
8. Individual Texting or Emailing
- No direct communication can be made between coaches and underage players via text or email.
- To avoid compromising the coachβs role, personal telephone numbers of children and coaches should not be exchanged.
9. Senior Panel Members
- If an underage player (u18) is on the clubβs senior panel, the same communication recommendation applies.
- Parental and Guardian permission must be obtained before directly communicating with the young person as part of a group text or email scheme.
